What is Trichology ?
An introductionTrichology began over a hundred years ago and is the specialised science and study of the hair and scalp. It is a profession concerned with the examination, diagnosis and external treatment of most disorders or conditions related specifically to the hair and scalp.
Some complaints may require specific medical attention. These patients would be referred to a G P or other medical specialist.
Many people whom are fortunate enough not to suffer from a particular condition do still like to enjoy periodically, the deep therapeutic effects of the treatment some clinics administer in order to maintain the health of the hair and scalp.
A trichologist should:
- be able to recognise any hair or scalp complaint regardless whether treatable or not,
- be a fully qualified consultant,
- be a registered member of the institute of trichologists.
In order for a trichologist to be a qualified consultant, one must undergo 3-4 years of intensive study incorporating such subjects as chemistry ( organic & inorganic), physics, biology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacy, material medica, microscopy etc
